Men's Golf Heads to Red River Classic in Dallas

STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State looks for its second straight victory in a prestigious tournament when the Cowboys' top-ranked golf team competes Monday and Tuesday in the Red River Classic in Dallas.
Led by sophomore Charles Howell, who won medalist honors, OSU won the Ping-Golfweek Preview last month to open its 1998-99 campaign. Like the Preview, the Red River Classic involves several ranked teams.
Included in the 15-team field are 12 of the nation's top 25 teams, according to the latest MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings, and in addition to fourth-ranked Howell and seventh-ranked OSU junior Edward Loar, the individual competition includes 12 top-25 golfers and seven of the top 10.
OSU has won the Classic title three times, most recently in 1994. In the Cowboys' most recent appearance two years ago, OSU was tied for second.
Play begins Monday with 36 holes on the Dallas Athletic Club's par-72, 6,766-yard course. The tournament concludes with 18 holes on Tuesday.
