Cowgirls Remain in Seventh at Big 12 Championships

WACO, Texas - Megan Robbins cleared a height of 3.71 meters as she finished second in the pole vault at the Big 12 Championships here today.
Robbins tied Oklahoma's Monika Erlach in height, but was awarded second because she had the least number of misses.
"I feel really good about today," Robbins said. "I finished sixth at the (Big 12 Championships) outdoors last year, so I was extremely excited."
Robbins' height met the provisionally qualifying height of 3.55m. Kansas' Andrea Branson won the event by setting a Big 12 record jump of 4.07m.
"Megan really did something that was a lot smarter than some of the other girls," OSU coach Catrina Acosta said. "I give credit to her coach (Ty Sevin) for that. Some of the girls came in at an earlier height and got tired. Megan was fresh."
Melinda Jackson jumped 6.01m in the long jump to finish in eighth place and earn her team a point.
Sherita Jackson advanced to the finals of both the 100m dash and the 200m dash. She won the third heat of the 200m with a time of 23.70 seconds, good enough for third overall. She also finished third in the first heat of the 100m with a time of 11.60 seconds.
Andrene Thompson won her heat of the 800m dash with the second-best time of the day to advance to the finals of the event.
Alexandra Lindquist also won her heat and recorded the second-best time of her event. She advanced to the finals of the 1,500m run with a time of 4:31.21.
"I think a lot of things got accomplished today," Acosta said. "We are much farther along than we were last year."
Although the team added nine points to up its total to 19, the Cowgirls remained in seventh place. Kansas State leads all teams with 53 points.
"Last year we only had 15 points for the entire meet," Acosta said. "I think today was an all-time high for most individuals in the finals. You can't win if you're not in the finals."
