Cowboys Finish Fourth at Big 12 Men's Golf Tourney

HUTCHINSON, Kan. -- Freshman Anders Hultman recorded the best finish of his career, but the sixth-ranked OSU men's golf team finished fourth today at the Big 12 Men's Golf Championship, 11 shots behind champion Kansas.
Hultman recovered from a quadruple-bogey on the par-five ninth hole to shoot 73 on the tournament's final day and finish seventh individually for the second top-10 finish of his young career. Texas' freshman phenom, David Gossett, won individual medalist honors at 1-under-par 209, six shots ahead of Hultman.
The Cowboys finished out of the top two for the first time in their Big Eight/Big 12 history and out of the top three for the first time ever in conference play; previously, OSU had finished second in the 1968, '84 and '92 Big Eight Tournaments and had finished tied for third at the 1957 Missouri Valley championship.
Although Hultman was OSU's only top-10 finisher -- marking only the second time since OSU joined the Big Eight in 1958 that the Cowboys didn't produce two top-10 performances -- Charles Howell and Edward Loar carded 72s Tuesday to finish tied for 14th at 8-over-par 218. Nick Seymour finished 29th with a 54-hole score of 224, and Landry Mahan was 32nd at 225.
The Jayhawks became the first team other than OSU to win the Big 12 men's golf title and won their first conference championship since 1950.
OSU returns to action May 15 and 16 at The Maxwell in Ardmore, Okla.
