Cowboy Golfers Finish Third at Red River Classic

DALLAS - Charles Howell recorded his second top-five finish in as many starts, and the top-ranked OSU men's golf team finished third today at the Taylor Made Red River Classic.
Howell, who opened the season with a championship at the Ping-Golfweek Preview, carded a 69 in today's final round to finish at 10-under-par 206, one stroke ahead of teammate Landry Mahan, who finished tied for seventh. David Gossett of Texas easily won individual medalist honors with a 17-under-par score of 199. Houston took the team title, firing a 33-under 831 to outdistance second-place Texas by seven strokes and OSU by nine.
Sophomore Peter Davidson, competing as an individual, recorded the best 54-hole score and finish of his career, coming in 13th at 210. He was joined in the top 20 by junior Edward Loar (15th with a 212); freshmen Anders Hultman (39th, 216) and Nick Seymour (74th, 227) rounded out the OSU lineup.
The Cowboys return to action Oct. 19-20, when they travel to Birmingham, Ala., for the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate.
