Postgame Notes: Oklahoma State 79 Texas Tech 71
February 21, 2018 | Cowboy Basketball
- The Cowboys pick up their fifth win over a ranked opponent this season, which would be the third most among Big 12 teams. Out of those five wins, three have come against top-10 teams.
- Trailing 37-35 with 19:24 left in the second half, the Cowboys exploded for a 14-0 run to take a 49-37 lead with 15:56 remaining. The Cowboys wouldn't give up their lead after that.
- The Cowboys were on fire from behind the 3-point line in the second half. They made their first six 3-pointers of the half and finished with 11 three-pointers. The Cowboys are now 13-1 when they make nine or more 3-pointers in a game, and 3-11 when they hit eight or less.
- The trio of Jeffrey Carroll, Kendall Smith and Lindy Waters combined for 53 of the Cowboys' 79 points. Carroll had 14 points for his 47th double-digit scoring outing out of his last 58 games played.
- Texas Tech ended the final 4:50 of the first half on a 12-5 run to take a 35-34 run into the break.
- Kendall Smith continues to score at will for the Cowboys. He had a double digit scoring outing for the ninth straight game. He led the Cowboys with 21 points for his sixth 20-point game of the season.
- Lindy Waters was lights out in this one. He stayed perfect in the game from the field, going 6-6 from the field to finish the game with 18 points, which is a career high for him.
- After tonight's game, Cameron McGriff has now made 26-straight free throws. He ranks second in the Big 12 with an 87.3 percent clip from the stripe.
- The Red Raiders have one of the best defenses in the country, for they force opposing teams to shoot an average of 39.1 percent from the field. In tonight's game, the Cowboys shot 52.2 percent from the field.
- Thomas Dziagwa provided a much needed spark off the bench for the Cowboys. He came in and knocked down a couple of 3-pointers to finish the game with six points.
- The Cowboys got out in transition and used it to their advantage. They outscored the Red Raiders, 20-2 in fast break points in tonight's game. That's the most fast break points the Cowboys have scored in league play this year.
- OSU snaps its season-long three-game losing streak in Gallagher-Iba Arena. The Cowboys earn a season split with Texas Tech, which would give OSU wins in three of the last four meetings. They move to 44-20 all-time against the Red Raiders, including a 23-4 mark in Stillwater.
- The Cowboys move to 12-5 at home, which would be the most victories in GIA since the 2013-14 team won 13 at home.
- OSU has made at least one three-pointer in 576 consecutive games dating back to Jan. 13, 2001, which is the 24th longest current streak in college basketball.
