Kansas State Postgame Notes
February 22, 2017 | Cowboy Basketball
- The win gives the Cowboys their fifth consecutive road victory, which is OSU's longest road winning streak in Big 12 play since the 2012-13 squad won five straight. The last team to win six straight in league play was the 1950-51 squad, which went 6-1 in Missouri Valley Conference road games.
- This gives OSU their first win in Bramlage Coliseum since Jan. 23, 2010. The Cowboys had dropped five straight in Manhattan, but are now 39-16 against the Wildcats in Manhattan. Overall, K-State leads the series with OSU, 79-53.
- Jawun Evans was one assist shy of his third career double-double . The sophomore posted 21 points and nine assists for his 15th career 20-point performance.
- Leyton Hammonds was also effective with 18 points and 10 rebounds, which is his third career double-double.
- Freshman Brandon Averette had his most productive night in league play with 13 points on 6-of-6 shooting. His previous scoring high against a Big 12 opponent was six points against TCU.
- The Cowboys nearly doubled-up the Wildcats in the paint 42-22, and handed them their fourth straight home loss.
- The Cowboys missed their first six shots of the night, and found themselves in an 8-0 just 5:17 into the first half. K-State would end up leading by as much as 14 with 6:11 left in the frame.
- The Cowboys responded with a 14-0 run that tied the game at 33 apiece with 2:22 left in the first half. K-State went into the break with a 1-point lead, 39-38, after Jawun Evans nailed a 3-pointer from the right wing as time expired.
- Tonight marked the 12th straight game with the following lineup for Oklahoma State: PG Jawun Evans, G Phil Forte, G Jeffrey Carroll, F Leyton Hammonds, F Mitchell Solomon.
- Forte entered tonight's game with the national lead in free throw percentage (.949). He was 2-of-2 from the line tonight, and has made his last 18 attempts from the line.
- This is Phil Forte's first career win in Bramlage Coliseum. Should Forte and the Cowboys also win at Iowa State, Forte would join ISU's Naz Mitrou-Long as the only active players to have won at every Big 12 venue.
- The Cowboys are now 19-9 on the year and 8-7 in Big 12 play, which is remarkable considering OSU was in last place in the Big 12 riding a 6-game losing streak on Jan. 18.
- OSU now has wins in nine of its last 10 games, which would is the program's most prosperous stretch after the turn of the New Year since the 2012-13 squad won 10-of-11 in Big 12 play.
- Cowboy head coach Brad Underwood is now 108-23 on his career. That moves his win percentage to .824, which is tops among all active coaches.
- The Cowboys will return home to face Texas Tech on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Gallagher-Iba Arena. ESPNU and the Cowboy Radio Network will have all the action.
