Postgame Notes: Oklahoma State 71 Florida State 70
December 16, 2017 | Cowboy Basketball
- Mitchell Solomon's tip-in with 5.4 seconds to go secured OSU's win, and it was his seventh offensive rebound of the game. He finished the game with his first career Double-Double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. He also had three blocks, a feat he has done three times now this season.
- OSU moves to 8-2 on the year, which matches last year's 10-game start. This gives the Cowboys a 2-0 all-time record against Florida State and a 7-6 record in games played in the Sunshine state. This also snap's OSU's seven-game losing streak to ranked teams, and their 117th win over ranked opponents.
- Jeffrey Carroll bounced back after last week's game against Wichita State where he was held to only three points. He finished with 23 points, giving him 1,008 in his career. He is now the 41st player in OSU history to reach the 1,000-point plateau. The senior was also named the game's MVP by the Orange Bowl Classic Media.Â
- Carroll was held under 10 points just five times in the 2016-17 season, but each time he responded with a big performance in his next game. In the games following his single-digit outings Carroll is now averaging 22.9 points on 47.8 percent shooting. He has scored 20-plus points in six of those games.
- Florida State is only averaging 13 turnovers per game, but the Cowboys' stifling defense forced them into 14 turnovers in the first half. The Cowboys' forced 22 total turnovers, which is the most by any opponent this season.
- The Cowboys used their defense to generate a lot of their offense. In the first half, 14 of their 34 points came off turnovers.
- Tavarius Shine and Lindy Waters provided big offensive sparks for the Cowboys. Shine finished with 12 points and Waters had 10 points.
- Yankuba Sima made his highly anticipated Cowboy debut on Saturday. He finished with five points and three rebounds.
- Kendall Smith had an all-around good game for the Pokes. He finished with seven points, six assists and five rebounds. Â
- OSU has made at least one three-pointer in 557 consecutive games dating back to Jan. 13, 2001, which is the 24th longest current streak in college basketball.
