Texas Tech Postgame Notes
January 21, 2017 | Cowboy Basketball
- The win gives Brad Underwood his 100th career victory in his 122nd game, which ties him for the 10th fastest coach to reach his 100th victory in college basketball history.
- The Cowboys hit 68.75 (11-of-16) percent from 3-point, which is the best mark in school history. That tops a 66.7 (12-of-18) percent shooting performance against Texas A&M on Jan. 27, 2010 for the record.
- The victory snaps OSU's six-game losing streak, and their 12-game losing streak in Big 12 play.
- The Red Raiders entered Saturday's game with a perfect 12-0 record at home, and had won their last 17 home games.
- Jeffrey Carroll tallied a career-high 25 points, and has now scored at least 20 points in each of the last four games and in five of the last six. The last time an OSU player scored 20 or more in five straight games was James Anderson in 2008-09.
- Phil Forte was 4-of-4 from 3-pointer, which increases his career total to 295 - only four shy of tying Keiton Page (299 career 3-pointers) for the school record.
- Forte finished the day with 21 points, which moves him to 1,575 career points, which ranks 10th in school history.
- Forte has now suited up in 121 career games for OSU, which is tied for 19th place in school history. He is chasing the school record of 136 currently held by Bryant Reeves and Byron Eaton.
- OSU is 11-5 when leading at the half this season. The Cowboys have outscored their opponents by 84 points in the first half this year.
- The Cowboys' high-pressure defense has forced every opponent to commit at least 10 turnovers. Six OSU opponents have turned the ball over 20-plus times.
- Mitchell Solomon grabbed four offensive rebounds, and has at least three offensive rebounds in each of the last four games and in 10 games overall this season.
- Thomas Dziagwa is a perfect 10-of-10 from the free throw line this season.
- The Cowboy opened the game on a 5-0 run, and held the Red Raiders scoreless through the game's first 4:43. The Cowboys stretched their lead to as many as 21 points with 5:16 left in the first half.
- The Cowboys shot 65.2 percent from the floor in the opening half, which is their second-best mark of the season behind 66.7 percent against Iowa State.
- The Cowboys won their 11th game on the season, which is just one below their 2015-16 win total of 12.
- This ends Texas Tech's three-game win streak in the series, and their three-game winning streak over OSU in Lubbock. Overall, the Cowboys lead the series 41-19.
- Give the Cowboys a third road win this season. Currently, only three Big 12 teams have more than two road wins; Kansas (4-0), West Virginia (3-1) and Kansas State (3-2). OSU is 2-4 in true road games and 4-5 overall away from GIA.
- The Cowboys will return to Gallagher-Iba Arena to face TCU on Monday night. Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m. on ESPNU and the Cowboy Radio Network.
