Cowgirls Wrap Up First Day at Riviera/ITA All-Americans
October 01, 2016 | Cowgirl Tennis
PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – The Oklahoma State women's tennis team wrapped up its first day of competition at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships, with a handful of Cowgirls competing in the event's pre-qualifying draw.
Â
The day opened in doubles, where the Cowgirl tandems of Sofia Blanco and Aliona Bolsova, and Lena Ruppert and Katarina Stresnakova would battle to advance into the qualifying draw.
Â
Bolsova and Blanco advanced with an 8-4 win in their first-round matchup against Wyoming's Elisa Koonik and Tessa Van Der Ploeg. Ruppert and Stresnakova came up short in their match against the seeded duo of LSU's Ryann Foster and Abby Owens, falling 8-3. The Cowgirl team will play in the consolation bracket beginning Sunday.
Â
Seeded eighth, Bolsova picked up another win in the first round of singles, handling Hawaii-Manoa's Marina Hruba in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. The Spanish freshman would fall to Rachel Pearson of Texas A&M in her second-round match.
Â
In a rematch of her win-clinching victory over Ferny Angeles Paz in the Cowgirls' NCAA national quarterfinal win over No. 4 Ohio State, Stresnakova was victorious yet again. The two traded wins in the first two sets, and much like the foes' first meeting, Stresnakova came up a 6-4 winner in the third set, tallying 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 triumph. Stresnakova would drop her second-round match to Specer Liang of Florida.
Â
Qualifying is set to begin Tuesday. Babic and senior Viktoriya Lushkova will both compete in qualifying for singles, while Lushkova and Carla Tur Mari will compete in qualifying for doubles.
