COLUMBUS, Ohio – Oklahoma State's men's golf team extended its lead at the NCAA Columbus Regional on Tuesday, posting a 6-under 278 to stand three shots clear of the field at Ohio State's Scarlet Course.
Through 36 holes, the top-ranked Cowboys stand at 9-under 559 and have four of their five starters inside the top 10 at the par-71, 7,364-yard layout. Illinois came in with a 562 total and UNLV finished the day in third place at 575. Northwestern is fourth at 583 and Texas Tech held down the No. 5 spot at 585.
Play was halted due to inclement weather and with four teams still on the course. The second round will resume at 6 a.m. (CST) with the final round to continue as originally scheduled.
Four players, including a pair of Cowboys, manned the top spot on the leaderboard at 139.
Freshman Matthew Wolff and junior Zach Bauchou were joined at 3-under par by Illinois' Nick Hardy and Michael Feagles.
Wolff followed his opening 70 with a 2-under 69. After making the turn at 2-over 38, he birdied the first four holes of his inward nine and countered his lone bogey of the closing nine with a birdie at the 16th to come home in 31.
Bauchou's day consisted of six birdies, three on each side, on his way to a 68, moving him up seven spots into the tie for first place.
Senior Kristoffer Ventura followed an opening 70 with a 71 to finish the day at 141 and tied for seventh place.
Sophomore Viktor Hovland climbed eight spots into a tie for 10th place at 143 after signing for a 70.
After opening with a 70, freshman Austin Eckroat carded a 74 on Tuesday to stand at 144 and tied for 15th place.
The regional is one of six being conducted to determine the field for the NCAA Championship finals, which will be contested May 25-30 at Karsten Creek in Stillwater.
Three sites have 13 teams and 10 individuals not on those teams, while the other three regionals are comprised of 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams. The low five teams and low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance.
