Cowboys Finish Second At Big 12 Championship

TULSA, Okla. – For the third year in a row, Oklahoma State's men's golf team finished second at the Big 12 Championship, sharing the runner-up spot with Texas at Southern Hills Country Club.
The Cowboys and Longhorns both carded 289 totals during their final round at the par-70, 7,084-yard layout to move into the No. 2 position at 1,147, 27-over par. Oklahoma won the event after posting a closing 287 to finish at 19-over 1,139.
OSU did produce the 10th Big 12 medalist in program history with Kristoffer Ventura finishing in a four-way tie for the top spot in the individual race.
Ventura was the lone player in the field to break 70 in cold, rainy conditions, firing a 1-under 69 to climb seven spots into a tie for first place at 3-over 283. The senior made the turn in 2-over 37 before mounting his charge on the back nine.
After a birdie at the 10th, he bounced back from a bogey at the 11th with a birdie at the par-5 13th hole. After carding three consecutive pars, Ventura eagled the par-4 17th to move under par for the day and into the top spot on the leaderboard.
With career win No. 3, Ventura joins Leif Westerberg (1997), Charles Howell (2000), Anders Hultman (2002), Hunter Mahan (2003), Pablo Martin (2007), Rickie Fowler (2008), Morgan Hoffmann (2009, 2011) and Stratton Nolen (2016) as Cowboys to win the Big 12 individual title.
Freshman Matthew Wolff posted his second consecutive 70 to finish at 5-over 285 and tied for fifth place.
Joining Ventura and Wolff in the top 10 was sophomore Viktor Hovland, who closed with a 74 to finish at 286 and tied for seventh place.
Junior Zach Bauchou carded a closing 76 to finish at 294 and tied for 28th place, while senior Sam Stevens tied for 36th place at 297 after posting a 76 as well.
The Cowboys will now wait to learn their NCAA Regional destination on May 2 at 4:30 p.m. (CST) live on Golf Channel.
