Postgame Notes: Oklahoma State 80 Iowa State 71
February 27, 2018 | Cowboy Basketball
- OSU's win gives seniors Jeffrey Carroll and Mitchell Solomon a victory in every current Big 12 venue. The last OSU players to earn a victory in every conference venue was in 1954. It ends a six game losing streak in Hilton Coliseum.
- The Cowboys earn the two-game season sweep of Iowa State for the first time since 1995. The Cowboys also accomplished that feat in 1994, 1987, 1981, 1975, 1965, 1963 and 1928. They pick up their seventh Big 12 victory of the year. It would mark the 18th time in 22 years of the Big 12 that OSU has won at least seven conference games.
- The Cowboys opened the second half on a 14-3 run to take a 62-46 lead with 13:29 to go. It would be the Cowboys' biggest lead of the game.
- The Cowboys' 48 first-half points was the most they have scored in the first half of Big 12 play this season.
- It was another great scoring outing for Cameron McGriff, he finished with 19 points. He has scored in double digits in five of the last nine games.
- Jeffrey Carroll has lit up the scoreboard in back-to-back games. After scoring 19 points against Texas, Carroll poured in 21 points for his 23rd 20-point scoring outing. He also tallied seven assists, which is a career-high for him.
- Carroll continues to climb up the OSU scoring leaderboard. He passed Terrell Harris and Corey Williams to move into 21st place with 1,323 points.
- Mitchell Solomon recorded his second career double-double in this one with 10 points and 11 rebounds. This was the first time in his career that he had a double-digit rebounding performance in back-to-back games. His rebounds gave him 572 for his career and moved him into 21st place in OSU history, passing Lafayette Threatt and Chianti Roberts.
- Over a 4:24 mark in the first half, the Cowboys went on a 17-3 run to take a 33-21 lead.
- Solomon recorded a block early in the second half and that gave him 64 career blocks in Big 12 games. That ties him for 4th all-time in OSU history with Markel Brown.
- The Cowboys outscored the Cyclones in second chance points, 24-4.
- OSU has made at least one three-pointer in 578 consecutive games dating back to Jan. 13, 2001, which is the 24th longest current streak in college basketball.
