AMES, Iowa — Oklahoma State track and field's Hassan Abdi and Molly Sughroue took gold on the final day of the 2018 Big 12 Championship in the Lied Recreation Center.

Sughroue is now a back-to-back Big 12 champion in the women's mile. She was one of 12 Cowgirls to find their way to the podium on Saturday.

"I went into this race and didn't put too much pressure on myself," Sughroue said. "I went out and just got the job done. No matter what race I'm in, I run to win."

The Cowgirls did a majority of their scoring in the women's middle-distance events.
Â
The Cowgirl sprint duo of Amira Coleman and Ambra Wesley went 5-6 in the 600-yard finals to score for the women's squad. Coleman ran a season-best 1:22.08 to earn four points toward the team.

In the women's 800 meters, seniors Kaylee Dodd and Stephanie Ferrante crossed the line in third and sixth, respectively to earn nine points for the Cowgirls. Dodd continues to make waves in the 800 meters, as she's already qualified for the NCAA Championships in the event.

Three women scored in the 1,000-meter final for OSU as Ariane Ballner, Abbie Hetherington and Jenny Celis went 3-5-6. The placing was Ballner's highest-finish at the Big 12 Championship in her OSU career.

Togher, Ireland native Emily Rogers earned her first All-Big 12 honor in the women's high jump. Rogers jumped a personal-best 1.75m/5-8.75 to hold steady at No. 2 on the OSU all-time list.

The final day two women's scoring came from the Cowgirl 4x400-meter relay team. The quartet of Dixon, Coleman, Ferrante and Wesley tied their season best of 3:43.22, crossing the line in sixth overall.

On the men's side, Abdi held off Iowa State's Edwin Kurgat in a fierce 3,000-meter race to take gold in 8:02.22. Abdi showed his versatility, as he has already qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 5,000 meters.

"I'm just looking forward to doing well at nationals," Abdi said. "But I'm happy with the results."

Two other Cowboys joined Abdi on the podium, as senior Luis Martinez and newcomer Ashenafi Hatte took fifth and seventh, respectively. The event earned the men 16 points, the highest total of any event for the Cowboys.

Hatte scored on three separate events for the Cowboys. he showed his competitiveness taking fourth in the mile, eighth in the 5,000 meters and the aforementioned 3,000 meters.

Along with Hatte, two Cowboys joined him on the podium, scoring for the men. Matthew Fayers took third and Canada native Ryan Smeeton seventh. His time earned Smeeton his second All-Big 12 honor.

Sprinter Brandon Singleton ran the fastest 600-yard time by a Cowboy this season, taking sixth in the race in 1:10.67. The placing earned Singleton his ninth All-Big 12 honor.

The men had two newcomers in the finals who scored for the Cowboys. Dustan Davidson took seventh to score two team points. Garrett Calhoun earned a point for the Pokes when he crossed the line in eighth in the 800-meter final.

Freshman Hootie Hurley produced a point for the men's squad in the pentathlon, placing eighth with 4,574 points. Teammate Mace Metcalf was close behind in ninth, scoring 4,551 points.

The Cowboys rounded out their scoring in the competition with the 4x400-meter relay. The relay team of Donyinah, Singleton, Green and Jackson placed sixth in the final event the 2018 Indoor Big 12 Championship.

The Cowboys scored 57 team points to take seventh overall, while the Cowgirls scored 55 to finish eighth at the conference meet.
The indoor season is over for most, but a handful of Cowboys and Cowgirls will head to the NCAA Championships in two weeks in College Station, Texas, including standouts Kaylee Dodd and Hassan Abdi.
