Postgame Notes: Oklahoma State 88 West Virginia 85
February 10, 2018 | Cowboy Basketball
- Lindy Waters knocked down a 3-pointer to win the game for the Cowboys. His 3-pointer put the Cowboys up 86-85 with 14 seconds left.
- Jeffrey Carroll and Waters combine to hit three crucial 3-pointers down the stretch for the Cowboys. Kendall Smith also had five points in the final three minutes of the game to continue to be clutch for the Cowboys. He also hauled in the offensive rebound that led to Waters' game-winning 3-pointer.
- OSU picks up back-to-back road wins over ranked opponents for the first time since winning at No. 25 Texas and No. 16 Baylor in February of 2015. It was also its fourth win over a ranked opponent this season, which would be tied for the 12th most in school history and the most since taking down five ranked teams in '14-15. The school record for ranked wins is nine by the Final Four Cowboys of '03-04.
- The Cowboys leave Morgantown with back-to-back wins in WVU Coliseum for the first time since 2013 and 2014. Only Oklahoma (2017 and 2016) and Baylor (2015 and 2014) have won in back-to-back trips to Morgantown since then. It closes the gap in the overall series to 7-6 in favor of the Mountaineers.
- Cameron McGriff couldn't be stopped in the first half. At one point, McGriff scored 12-straight points for the Cowboys. McGriff tied his career-high with 20 points and came one rebound short of a double-double. He also made a career-high 13 free throws.
- Eight of the Cowboys' last 11 games have now been decided by two possessions or less. The Cowboys have won seven of those games, with four of them coming against ranked opponents.
- The two teams traded runs in the second half. The Cowboys started off the half with a 10-2 run to take a 46-43 lead at the 17:47 mark. The Mountaineers responded with a 14-3 to take back the lead with a 57-49 advantage at the 13:30 mark. The Cowboys then went on a 6-0 run to cut the Mountaineers' lead to 57-55 with 11:48 to go.
- After shooting 46.7 percent from the free throw in the last game, the Cowboys bounced back to shoot 83 percent, going 30-36 from the line.
- Smith did a good job of handling the high-intensity defense of West Virginia. He finished the game with 20 points. Smith has now reached double figures in each of his last six games.
- After missing four games, Tavarius Shine made his return into the Cowboy lineup. He finished the game with seven points and four rebounds.
- Yankuba Sima blocked two shots in today's game. In 16 games this season, he has 20 blocks.
- This was a back and forth game throughout. The entire game saw 14 lead changes and the score was tied a total of 14 times.
- OSU has made at least one three-pointer in 571 consecutive games dating back to Jan. 13, 2001, which is the 24th longest current streak in college basketball.
