STILLWATER – The South Carolina Football Hall of Fame announced Tuesday that former Oklahoma State quarterback Mason Rudolph is the winner of the 2017 Blanchard-Rogers Trophy, commonly referred to as "South Carolina's Heisman."
The award is presented annually to South Carolina's most outstanding collegiate football player of the year, with eligible candidates including all college players playing in South Carolina, as well as South Carolina natives playing outside the state. The 2017 trophy will be presented at the organization's annual Enshrinement Ceremony presented by IAG on April 19 at the Embassy Suites at Verdae in Greenville, S.C.
Rudolph, a native of Rock Hill, South Carolina, finished the season as the leading passer in FBS, both in terms of passing yards (4,904) and passing yards per game (377.2), and he also led all Power Five players in points responsible for per game (21.7).
Wrapping up his career with a 32-9 record as a starter, Rudolph led the Cowboys to three straight 10-win seasons and a 3-1 record in bowl games. He leaves Oklahoma State as the most prolific passer in school history with more than 50 school records, 13,618 passing yards and 92 passing touchdowns while throwing only 26 interceptions in 42 career games. He is considered to be one of the top quarterbacks in the upcoming 2018 NFL Draft.
Rudolph has received numerous other accolades this season, including the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award for accomplishments on the field, character, citizenship, scholastic achievement and leadership qualities, as well as All-America honors from the American Football Coaches Association and the Associated Press. He is also one of three national finalists for the Jason Witten Man of the Year Award, which recognizes exemplary leadership both on and off the field. Other honors include being named a finalist for the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award and a finalist for the Manning Award, plus recognition from the Maxwell Award, the Wuerffel Trophy and the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, among others.
