Post-Dual Quotes: OSU vs. West Virginia
January 19, 2018 | Cowboy Wrestling
Head Coach John Smith
Â
On the capabilities of this team:
Â
"I want to see more out of this team. I'm just not seeing the level that I think we're capable of seeing. And we have got to start putting it together and pushing ourselves a little bit harder in these matches. To score points, if somebody's coming out and trying to keep us from scoring, have the will to go in and not let that kind of match take place, I thought we saw that a little bit in a couple matches … I'm looking for a lot more aggression."
Â
On the status on Chandler Rogers:
Â
"(He) won't be ready on Sunday. Injury, but nothing that should keep him out long, just probably through this weekend, to keep him safe, and we'll look at him real closely next week."
Â
On Preston Weigel's performance:
Â
"He's picked up some important takedowns at critical times in matches against pretty good people, and that's really the difference in the score. In the past he's had to rely on top, and he's put together a string of offensive takedowns that really make the difference. Of course he was taken down in that first period, but the second period takedown was a big difference and a big swing in the match."
Â
Preston Weigel – 197 pounds, RJr.
Â
On his bout with Jacob Smith
"Yeah, it was an alright match. I think I need to separate the scores more. The main thing is to not settle with that. I've got a lot more room to grow and push for the title. I need to separate the scores more. You'll see me separate the scores."
Â
On separating scores and how he is progressing this season after injury:
"I'll get there. That was only my fifth match, and I am going to keep pushing and training hard. I feel like I left off from where I ended last year. I'm right there. I've got to focus on what I want to do this year."
Â
On the final period of his match:
"(It was about) being tough. I needed it there. You don't want to give him a chance. He was sitting there stalling, and you just have to go get it when you need it."
