September 05, 2017 | Cowboy Basketball
STILLWATER – The MetroPCS Orange Bowl Classic has announced that Oklahoma State's hardwood matchup against Florida State will tipoff at 1 p.m. Central on Dec. 16, and will be televised nationally on Fox Sports 2.
The Cowboys and Seminoles will meet at the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Florida, which is the home of the NHL's Florida Panthers. The 24th annual Orange Bowl Classic will also feature a matchup between Florida and Clemson at 3:30 p.m. on FS2.
Florida State is coming off a 26-9 record and an opening round win in the 2017 NCAA Tournament. Former OSU head coach Leonard Hamilton has been at the helm of the Seminole program for 15 years, and has 504 career wins to his credit. In his four years as the head coach at OSU (1987-90), Hamilton was 56-63, including first round wins in the NIT in both 1989 and 1990.
This will be just the second hardwood matchup between OSU and FSU, and the first since 1964. The two teams last met at a tournament hosted by Vanderbilt on Dec. 18, 1964, and OSU came away with a 60-56 win thanks to 14 points from Freddie Moulder and 13 points and 11 rebounds from James King.
This is OSU's second appearance in the Orange Bowl Classic. The Cowboys fell to Florida, 72-70, in 2015. The Seminoles are making their ninth appearance in the Classic, and own a 7-1 record.
