SAN ANTONIO – Oklahoma State returned to the win column with its highest-scoring match of the season Sunday at Park West Athletics Complex as the 19th-ranked Cowgirls claimed a 6-0 victory over UTSA.
Â
Freshman Taylor Olson recorded a hat trick in her hometown, and Anna Beffer added a goal and two assists as OSU remained undefeated on the season in improving to 5-0-1.
Â
Olson's three goals marked the first hat trick for OSU since Krista Lopez recorded a program-record four goals against Arkansas-Little Rock on Sept. 4, 2011. She is the 11th different player in Cowgirl history to record three goals in a match; the feat has now been achieved 16 times in 22 seasons of OSU soccer.
Â
OSU dominated the attack in the opening half, outshooting the home team by an 11-3 margin, and had several near misses early as Beffer had a shot deflect off the crossbar and Claire Gantzer had an attempt saved off the line by a UTSA defender.
Â
But in the 30th minute, the Cowgirls finally broke through when, on her fourth shot of the half, Beffer buried a blast from 20-yards out for her first goal of the season. Marlo Zoller was credited with an assist on the play as OSU took a 1-0 advantage.
Â
OSU took the 1-0 lead into intermission, and over the final 45 minutes, the Cowgirls continued to convert opportunities and build their lead. In the 51st minute, Gantzer got the second-half scoring started when she headed in a corner kick by Beffer for her second goal of the season. The score marked the fourth this season that the Cowgirls have had directly off a corner kick.
Â
Just three minutes later, OSU took a 3-0 advantage when Zoller collected a Beffer pass in stride, dribbled past the charging UTSA goalie and buried the open-net opportunity. The goal was Zoller's second of the year.
Â
OSU's next two goals were nearly identical as Olson secured the first multi-goal game of her young career by scoring in the 75th and 78th minutes, both times off assists from Haley Woodard.
Â
Olson completed her historic scoring day at the 81:34 mark when she converted her third goal of the day, taking a pass from Camy Huddleston and delivering the ball to the far post.
Â
OSU finished the match with a 21-8 advantage in shots and held a 7-1 edge in corner kicks.
Â
Oklahoma State returns to action Friday when it hosts Illinois at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
