STILLWATER – Oklahoma State remained unbeaten on the season and perfect on its home field as the 18th-ranked Cowgirls knocked off Abilene Christian, 3-0, Sunday at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex.
Â
OSU netted all three of its goals in the opening half as the Cowgirls won their third-straight match to improve to 7-0-1 on the season, the program's best start since going unbeaten in its first 21 matches of 2011.
Â
Anna Beffer recorded a goal and an assist in Sunday's win to lead the offensive attack, while fellow senior Tanya de Souza recorded four saves to pick up her first shutout in an OSU uniform.
Â
OSU outshot Abilene Christian (2-5-0) by a 23-9 count, while the Wildcats owned a slight 6-5 advantage on corner kicks.
Â
de Souza, making her third start of the season and first since Aug. 27 vs. Creighton, made her presence felt early on when at the 4:28 mark she dove and made a kick save on a shot by Dylan Owens to keep the visitors off the scoreboard.
Â
The Cowgirls would take a lead they would never surrender in the ninth minute when Jaci Jones sent a pass into the box to Beffer, who beat her defender and delivered a shot to the near post from six-yards out for her second goal of the season.
Â
With OSU still leading 1-0 in the 22nd minute, de Souza made another impressive save to keep ACU from collecting the equalizer when she leapt and knocked a Shay Johnson shot over the crossbar.
Â
OSU went up 2-0 at the 29:24 mark. This time it was Beffer, who entered the weekend as the NCAA leader in assists, setting up Haley Woodard for the score as Woodard recorded her second goal of the weekend and third of the year. Beffer's assist marked her eighth of 2017, which is tied for the 10th most in a season in school history, and was also the 17th of her career as she moved into the top 10 on that OSU list as well.
Â
The Cowgirls' final score of the match came in the 38th minute. After Amy Nguyen was fouled by an ACU defender in the box, OSU was awarded a penalty kick. Julia Lenhardt stepped up and buried the opportunity, recording her second goal of the season and putting the home team up 3-0.
Â
OSU, now one of only two unbeaten teams remaining in the Big 12 Conference along with Texas, returns to action next weekend when they travel to the Bay Area to take on San Francisco and California.
