2017 Oklahoma State Cowboy Baseball Season Superlatives

• Oklahoma State finished the season with a 30-27 record.

• The Cowboys earned an NCAA Tournament bid for the fifth consecutive year.

• OSU's NCAA Regional berth was the 43^rd in the program's history, which ranks fourth all time.

• OSU captured the 32^nd conference championship in program history when it won the Big 12 Championship tournament title.

• The Big 12 Conference championship was the third in program history, joining 2004 tournament and 2014 regular season titles.

• OSU became the first No. 8 seed in Big 12 Championship history to win the tournament. The Cowboys went 4-0 en route to the title.

• Garrett McCain was named the Big 12 Championship Most Outstanding Player. Other Cowboys earning spots on the Big 12 Championship All-Tournament Team were Colin Simpson, Ryan Cash, Ryan Sluder, Bryce Fischer, Blake Battenfield and Carson Teel.

• The Cowboys were ranked in at least one national poll for the first seven weeks of the 2017 season, extending a streak of consecutive weeks in the national rankings to 77 dating back to 2013.

• OSU was 9-6 against ranked teams.

• OSU won its 900^th game in Allie P. Reynolds Stadium with a victory over Texas State on Feb. 26.

• The Cowboys collected 22 hits in a win over Arizona State on Feb. 21, the most ever in a game by a Josh Holliday-coached club.

• Outfielder Garrett McCain became the 25^th different OSU player to earn first-team All-America status as he picked up that honor from ABCA/Rawlings.

• McCain's All-American selection by the ABCA/Rawlings marks the fourth consecutive year Oklahoma State has produced a First-Team All-American as McCain follows Brendan McCurry (2014), Michael Freeman (2015) and Thomas Hatch (2016).

• Garrett McCain also earned a spot on the Baseball America All-America Second Team, the Perfect Game/Rawlings All-America Second Team and the D1Baseball All-America Third Team.

• Garrett McCain was named an ABCA/Rawlings All-Midwest Region First Team performer.

• Garrett McCain was a semifinalist for the Gregg Olson Award, honoring college baseball's breakout player of the year.

• OSU had four players garner All-Big 12 accolades in 2017. Named to the All-Big 12 First Team were outfielder Garrett McCain and infielder Garrett Benge, while pitcher Tyler Buffett and catcher Colin Simpson were honorable mention selections.

• Cade Cabbiness was named to the Big 12 All-Freshman Team.

• OSU had four players earn weekly honors from the Big 12 on six occasions in 2017.

• Carson Teel was named a Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week on March 13.

• Garrett Benge was named a Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week on March 20.

• Junior Garrett McCain led the Big 12 with a .388 batting average. He became the fourth Cowboy to lead the Big 12 in hitting and the first since 2008.

• McCain also led the Big 12 in hits (87) and on-base percentage (.491). He ranked second in the league in stolen bases (19) and third in triples (5), total bases (123) and slugging percentage (.549).

• Garrett McCain ranked seventh nationally with a .491 on-base percentage, and his .388 batting average ranked as the 13^th highest in the NCAA in 2017.

• Garrett Benge led the Big 12 with 49 walks. He also ranked in the top five in triples (4), RBIs (53) and on-base percentage (.437).

• Trey Cobb ended his career with an OSU-record 92 appearances, and he finished sixth on the program's all-time list with 11 saves.

• Tyler Buffett left OSU ranking second all time in appearances with 87, eighth with 275 2/3 innings pitched and 10th with nine saves.

• Ryan Sluder ended his career seventh on OSU's career sacrifice bunts list with 29.

• Dustin Williams finished his career having played 212 games in a Cowboy uniform, one shy of entering the program's top-10 all time, and his 10 triples tied for ninth all time at OSU.

• Blake Battenfield ended his career with 79 career appearances, which ranks sixth on OSU's all-time list.

• Garrett Benge became the fourth OSU player to hit for the cycle during the Big 12 Conference era (since 1997) and is one of just 19 Big 12 players to ever achieve the feat. Benge's cycle came against Missouri State in the NCAA Fayetteville Regional.

• OSU had six players selected in the 2017 Major League Baseball Draft.

• OSU tied a program record for the second-straight year with nine Academic All-Big 12 First Team selections, a total that led the conference. A total of 14 Cowboys earned Academic All-Big 12 accolades, one shy of the program record. Earning first-team honors were Tyler Buffett, Matt Wilson, Trey Cobb, Dustin Williams, Garrett Benge, Jake Cowan, Jon Littell, Garrett McCain and Joe Lienhard. Named to the second team were Ryan Sluder, Blake Battenfield, Jacob Chappell, Andrew Rosa and Carson Teel.

• Tyler Buffett was one of 10 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award.
