June 09, 2017 | Cowboy Tennis
STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State men's tennis team has added Brady Draheim, Luke Hammond, Lefteris Theodorou and Maxim Tybar to the squad for the 2017-18 campaign, head coach Jay Udwadia announced Friday.
"I'm very excited for these four to join us in the fall," Udwadia said. "They are all tremendously talented competitors and will be great additions to both our team and our university. Each one brings a different skillset to our team and they, along with the guys we have returning next year, will help us continue to be one of the premier programs in the country."
Brady Draheim – Prairie Village, Kansas
Draheim has competed in several ITA Juniors events throughout his career. In those events, the right-hander has posted a .857 winning percentage in singles while also winning more than 70 percent of his doubles contests. Draheim has also won 53 matches in United States Tennis Association tournaments across the country, and has earned the No. 55 spot in the USTA Boys 18 Combined rankings.
Draheim on coming to Oklahoma State
"I chose Oklahoma State because of the guys on the team, the incredible support the team receives and how close to home it is for me. But the biggest reason I chose OSU was Coach Udwadia, because I haven't seen any other coach with his energy, positivity and general knowledge for the game of tennis. I'm looking forward to being a part of the team, because I think that is what gives college tennis so much appeal and I'm also excited to compete in the Big 12
Luke Hammond – England
The right-hander has found plenty of success on the international scene, as he boasts 95 career wins on the ITF Juniors circuit. Hammond's talent is evident in both singles and doubles, where the newest Cowboy signee has won more than two-thirds of his matches as a junior player, which includes an impressive .746 winning percentage in singles action. The Englishman's success at the junior level has helped him earn a spot in the ITA Junior Rankings, where he has climbed as high as No. 144 in the combined rankings. Hammond advanced to the second round of the main draw during this year's Junior Wimbledon Championships and he currently holds a 13.37 Universal Tennis Rating.
Hammond on coming to Oklahoma State
"I chose Oklahoma State for the great coaches that will help me develop my game and get the best out of me, both on and off the court. The atmosphere when I visited felt like a family and everyone was pushing each other to be the best they could be. The fighting spirit I saw from the team was incredible and made me want to be a part of OSU tennis. Coach Udwadia has big goals for the team in the coming years and I wanted to be a part of something special at Oklahoma State."
Lefteris Theodorou – Athens, Greece (Iowa)
Theodorou will be joining the Cowboys after spending the past three seasons at the University of Iowa, where he compiled 49 singles wins playing primarily at the top of the Hawkeyes' lineup. A native of Athens, Greece, Theodorou has also found success in doubles action at Iowa, as he posted a 14-7 mark last season, which included a 10-6 record at the No. 1 position in dual matches. He has also competed extensively on the ITF Juniors circuit, collecting 76 wins across singles and doubles competition. During his junior career, Theodorou was the Greek national champion and climbed as high as No. 131 in the ITF World Junior rankings.
Theodorou on coming to Oklahoma State
"I chose Oklahoma State because they have every aspect that I was looking for in a school. They are a tremendously successful program, the team is full of guys that are all very talented, and the facilities are incredible. I also think that Coach Udwadia understands me and will be able to bring my best tennis out of me. I'm looking forward to competing with the team and, as an incoming senior, being a leader for some of the younger guys."
Maxim Tybar – Minsk, Belarus
Tybar has collected double-digit wins while competing on the ITF Futures Tour. He is currently ranked No. 1048 in the Association of Tennis Professionals World Tour Rankings. Tybar has also won 20 singles contests as a junior competitor. The right-hander will join his compatriot and current Cowboy, Artur Dubinski, this fall in Stillwater.
