APR Data Released – Oklahoma State Has Five Perfect Scores, Football Achieves New Program Record

STILLWATER – Academic Progress Rate (APR) data for 2015-16 was released by the NCAA today with five programs at Oklahoma State earning perfect scores and the Cowboy football program turning in its best single-year and multi-year rates on record.
Oklahoma State teams with perfect scores in 2015-16 were men's golf, women's cross country, women's golf, soccer and women's tennis. Men's golf and women's tennis have perfect multi-year rates over the last four years, as well.
"Our student-athletes are performing well in the classroom and the APR data shows that," Athletic Director Mike Holder said. "The high scores are a reflection of the pride they take in their own development and also of the culture that our coaches and academic support staff have in place."
The Cowboy football program's 2015-16 rate of 974 and its multi-year rate of 953 both represent the highest marks it has achieved since the APR was implemented in 2003. This year's multi-year rate was an improvement over the previous year for the fourth consecutive year.
"We set a program record for APR this year and the numbers show – like in other areas of Oklahoma State football - that we are rising to the top," head coach Mike Gundy said. "This is exactly what our staff wants. Not only are we winning on the football field, but we're winning in the classroom. We have a great partnership with Marilyn Middlebrook and her team in the Academic Enrichment Center and we're thankful for all the time and effort they put in to helping all of our student-athletes reach their goals in the classroom."
The Academic Progress Rate holds institutions accountable for the academic progress of their student-athletes through a team-based metric that accounts for the eligibility and retention of each student-athlete for each academic term.
Teams must earn a four-year APR of 930 to compete in championships, and every team at Oklahoma State is comfortably above that marker.
An APR score of 980 or higher is considered outstanding and nine of Oklahoma State's 15 programs exceeded that mark in 2015-16 – baseball, men's cross country, men's golf, men's track and field, women's cross country, women's golf, soccer, women's tennis and women's track and field. It should be noted that women's basketball narrowly missed with a 2015-16 mark of 978 and a multi-year rate of 975.
Ten of Oklahoma State's 15 programs demonstrated a positive trend by either matching or outperforming their multi-year rate in 2015-16. Included in that group are men's golf, baseball, men's basketball, football, men's track and field, women's basketball, women's cross country, women's golf, soccer and women's tennis.
