Postgame Quotes OSU vs MVSU
December 03, 2017 | Cowboy Basketball
Oklahoma State head coach Mike Boynton
Opening statement
"I thought that we were the aggressors from the start. I thought we did a good job of taking them out of rhythm and keeping them off balance from an offensive stand point, from their offensive stand point, with our defensive pressure and being disruptive. The other thing that I thought we did, again, we shared the ball and we moved it. We got out of transition and got some easy baskets."
On playing a full 20 minutes in the second half
"I don't think we played a full 20 the way I'd like to, but we are getting closer. We are probably at the 37 minute mark now. We got to find a way to close that gap and be consistently good for 40 minutes."
On Solomon's start down low
"We got to establish an interior presents. We got really good shooters and the more we establish that it'll make it easier for those perimeter guys. Did a good job starting the game. Mitchell was really good at being ready. I think he's nine-for-nine in the last two games, so I'll take that every day."
On Kendall Smith
"Kendall is a kid who is a student of the game. He comes in, he wants to be criticized, he wants to know how he can improve and that's a testament to him for being an experienced guy. He doesn't mind taking a little bit of heat and find a way to improve and help his team. He was much better today than he was the other day."
On getting Trey Reeves a shot
"I got him in there and I told Lucas that he should of set a better screen because Trey Reeves needs a little bit more time to get that shot off."
On Wichita StateÂ
"We got a team that's legitimate. Top ten team, a team with, probably, the most experience of any team in the country. A team people are projecting to be a Final Four caliber team and we got them here in Stillwater. Certainly know we will have a great week of preparation and getting ready for them. I know they'll be ready considering how we played up there."Â
Oklahoma State forward Mitchell Solomon
On the early action in the post
"In the beginning of the season, we have been relying on the 3-pointer a lot, and so we're not necessarily going away from the 3-pointer, we're just working on different things, so when the time comes, we can go to different scoring options if we need to."
On his comfort offensively
"I'm feeling good. My teammates have a lot of confidence in me and so do my coaches. I'm just trying to go out there and get some points and take some scoring pressure off our wings and help our team in an area where I haven't helped our team in the past."
On making a 3-pointer in today's contest
"I think I dove on the ball to get that possession and I think the basketball gods rewarded me."
On the defensive effort
"Whenever you can affect the game in a lot of areas, everything seems to flow better. I've generally been a good rebounder, but being able to affect the game with assists and steals in different areas definitely improves the flow of my game."
On crowds this season
"We've got a new coach and we had some heartbreak last year, and I think it'll take the fans a little bit to get bought in again. I think they'll come as long as we keep playing hard and playing the way we do. I think everyone will be coming back."
Oklahoma State point guard Kendall Smith
On ball movement in the first half
"I mean we've got a group of guys that can really score the ball, so every now and then the ball might get a little bit stagnant. We're all confident in each other and sharing the ball. We're a very unselfish team. We'll have a possession when it's stagnant and then there will be a possession where the offense looks really good."
On seeing Solomon knock down a 3-pointer
"I've got unbelievable confidence in him in the way he shoots the ball. In practice, I kind of like to have him on my team because he is always picking and popping and making 3s. He was in a little bit of a slump, but, like I said, we've got unbelievable confidence in him and I was happy he made one today."
On his performance in today's game
"The amount of work that myself and my team puts in (is great). We're going to have some good games, we're going to have some bad games, but the main thing is remaining confident in who we are and what we can do. I know I can score the ball, so if I'm shooting the ball good or if I'm shooting the ball bad, I always remain confident. In the second half, I showed I can make shots."
On the importance of the diversity in scoring
"It's been like that a few games this season (where) we've had a few guys in double figures. The confidence is building for a lot of guys, so when we play the Kansas' and the Baylor's, it's not the first time they've put the ball in the bucket. Every game is a building block, and we want to continue to build."
On the assist numbers this season
"We genuinely like each other, so when we see a guy open, we get excited to make a play for our teammate."
