Cowgirls Come Up Short Against No. 12 Lady Vols, 79-69

CANCUN, Mexico – Oklahoma State's women's basketball team suffered its first defeat of the season on Friday afternoon with a 79-69 setback at the hands of No. 12 Tennessee at the Cancun Challenge at Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya.
The Cowgirls (5-1) dug an early hole, shooting just 18 percent in the first quarter en route to a 24-10 deficit. However, OSU chipped away at the Lady Vol (5-0) lead in the second, outscoring Tennessee 21-17 in the quarter.
OSU trailed by single digits for the majority of the third, cutting the deficit to just two on three different occasions, all on points from Loryn Goodwin, but could never pull even.
The senior led all scorers, finishing with 29 points on an 11-of-20 shooting effort. She also added a team-best three assists to go with three rebounds and a steal.
In the fourth, the Lady Vols quickly pushed the lead back to double digits, going back in front by as many as 13 with seven minutes remaining in the contest. OSU would not go away as Goodwin hit a layup with 4:36 remaining to make it a 70-64 contest.
The Cowgirls would go cold down the stretch, missing seven shots in a row at one point. During that time, Tennessee made five consecutive free throws to put the game out of reach.
Senior Mandy Coleman finished with 12 points, while Kaylee Jensen recorded her third double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Freshman Braxtin Miller scored 10 points as well.
The Cowgirls will be back in action on Nov. 30 when they host Southern at 7 p.m. in Gallagher-Iba Arena.
