Tegan Cunningham Chosen In AFLW Draft
October 18, 2017 | Cowgirl Basketball
MELBOURNE – Former Oklahoma State standout Tegan Cunningham was selected today in the third round (No. 22 overall) of the NAB Australian Football League Women's Draft by Melbourne Football Club.
Upon her return to Australia from Stillwater, Cunningham continued her basketball career professionally, playing more than 150 WNBL games with the Adelaide Lightning, Logan Thunder, Dandenong Rangers and Melbourne Boomers.
Most recently, she competed for the Waverley Falcons, which served as one of OSU's four opponents this past summer on its 10-day tour Down Under.
Cunningham was a two-year letterwinner for the Cowgirls, helping guide OSU to the NCAA Tournament as a senior in 2010. During her final campaign at OSU, she averaged 16.7 points and 7.3 rebounds per game en route to earning second-team All-Big 12 status.
The 2017 AFLW Draft consisted of nine rounds and totaled 49 picks.
There are three rough groups that clubs can draw from in the draft – top-age players from the under-18 competition (the traditional source of talent in the men's draft), state-league players who are above the age of 18 and players who were delisted from AFLW lists at the conclusion of the season.
