Postgame Quotes - OSU vs. Seminole State
October 11, 2017 | Cowgirl Softball
Head Coach Kenny Gajewski
On the biggest takeaway from the game:
"The most important thing is the zero up there. We have played two straight now, 20 innings total, with no errors and we were rotating a lot of kids through during this. I thought our pitching was really good tonight. Those are the things that are conducive to teams playing well. When you make no errors and you're not giving up free runners to their team. This team's going to score runs, I know that. It's going to come down if we can pitch enough."
On Maddi Holcomb's first three games of the fall:
"I'm trying to empower her. She's a kid that has tremendous talent. I told her a couple weeks back that I think I've sold her a little bit short and that I haven't pushed her in some areas that I think she can get better in. We have been really grinding with her short game and her hitting. I'm just happy because when kids work hard and they get results, it's really cool to see. It's why you coach."
On the pitching performance:
"We had some strikeouts this evening as well, which we haven't been accustomed to the past couple of years. Emmie Robertson threw the ball well, her tempo is just awesome. Hey, we're getting better there. Coach (Jeff) Cotrill has worked really hard and I am happy with the job he has done."
Pitcher Whitney Whitehorn
On not giving up a run:
"It's awesome. It's just a great feeling to go and put up zeros because it makes our job easier and it makes them relax at the plate so they're not pushing."
On pitching staff:
"I think we just want to throw strikes and not throw a lot of pitches to make them fast, quick innings."
On having run support:
"It's a total relaxation when your team can give you runs and you can pitch with a little deep breath. It's awesome they're doing their job so it makes our job way easier."
On tomorrow's game:
"I'm just looking to come out and compete again. I know our team is too."
Outfielder Maddi Holcomb
On the pitching staff:
"They're grinding every single day. They're really just focusing on throwing strikes and and they're obviously doing a really good job at that. Our defense is playing really well. Two twenty inning games in a row that we haven't made an error. I feel like for pitchers when we're doing that for them it's easy for them to just go out there and do their thing. I think that has a big part in it."
On her hitting approach:
"I'm really working on just slowing down. That's something that I've been preached at is to slow down so I'm slowing my approach down at the plate. I'm hitting away more and really focusing on my short game and right now everything is going good."
On Sydney Pennington:
"Oh, she's a beast. She can miss hit (not sure on this ap style rule) a ball and it's still on a line. She's a competitor and she's gonna go all in and that's why she's doing so well with it."
