UT Postgame Notes
January 04, 2017 | Cowboy Basketball
- Jeffrey Carroll scored a career-high 24 points for his fifth 20-point game of the season. He has scored at least eight points in every game this season, and has reached double-figures in 12 games in total.
- Jawun Evans wasn't far behind Carroll with 19 points. It was the sophomore's 19th career double-digit performance.
- A 15-0 Texas run midway through the second half turned 50-46 OSU lead into a 61-50 deficit with 11:18 left to play. OSU closed the gap to a single point with 6:57 remaining on a Phil Forte free throw, but that was as close as the Cowboys came.
- OSU is now 10-2 when leading at the half this season. The Cowboys have outscored their opponents by 57 points in the first half.
- Phil Forte's free throw streak ended at 25. The national free throw leader was 3-of-4 from the line on the night, but his lone miss ended a streak that dated back to OSU's Maui Invite opener on Nov. 21. Forte entered the night with the national lead in free throw percentage with a clip of 97.8 percent.
- Forte knocked down two 3-pointers against Texas, which brings his career total to 277 - only 22 shy of the program's career record.
- The Cowboys dropped to 0-2 in Big 12 play for the first time since the inaugural year of the league in 1996-97.
- The loss to the Longhorns snapped OSU's modest two-game road winning streak. The Cowboys had won at Tulsa and Wichita State in their last two road games, and are now 4-3 this year away from GIA.
- Brad Underwood is now 99-18 for his career, but his 84.6 win percentage is still tops among all active coaches nationwide. With his next win he can still become the sixth fastest coach to reach the 100-win plateau in college basketball history.
- The loss extends OSU's Big 12 Conference losing streak to eight games overall. An injured Cowboy squad lost its final six Big 12 contests last season, and West Virginia took down OSU in the 2016-17 conference opener last week.
- The Longhorns extended their lead in the overall series with OSU, 49-41, including a 29-13 mark in Austin.
- The Cowboys will head up I-35 to Waco to face No. 2/3 Baylor on Saturday at 6 p.m. Central. The game at the Ferrell Center will appear on ESPNews and the Cowboy Radio Network.
