What Motivates Me – Rennie Childs
September 21, 2016 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER – Family is everything to Oklahoma State running back Rennie Childs but his relationship with his mom is something special and it's what motivates him every day.
"I talk to her every day," Childs said. "She keeps me up when I'm down, and she's been my backbone all of my life, especially these past two years."
The past three years haven't always been easy for Childs. He's had multiple setbacks with various injuries that have kept him sidelined for parts of his Cowboy career, but through it all, his mother, Kassandra, has been there for him.
"She told me to just push through it and stay calm," Rennie said. "I can talk to her after anything and she just calms me down."
Childs, a senior from Houston, said he talks to his mother before every game and she usually tells him the same thing.
"The next time you get the ball, just take it, run with it and don't look back," Kassandra said. "Don't worry about what anyone is saying, just go hard."
That's exactly what Childs did last Saturday against Pittsburgh when he earned his first start of the season and rushed for four touchdowns and a career-best 102 yards.
"I called her after the game," Rennie said. "I told her I loved her and thanked her for always being there for me. She's my mom and my biggest fan. She's one of my best friends, and I love her to death.
"I know she'll always be there to support me."
Childs hopes to continue his success on the field this Saturday at Baylor, with his mom cheering him on from the stands at McLane Stadium.
