TULSA, Okla. - Oklahoma State's Katarina Adamovic fell in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Singles Championship in three sets against No. 1 Hayley Carter of North Carolina on Saturday.
Â
The Cowgirl was the first to advance to the quarterfinal round of the tournament since Lori McNeil in 1983.
Â
"There's nothing I can be sad about," Adamovic said. "I'm going to focus on the positives instead of the negatives and next year I'm going to come back stronger."
Â
"I adore Oklahoma State University and I adore playing for this university."Â
Â
Facing a 4-2 deficit in the first set, Adamovic battled back to even the score at 4-all by winning the deuce point in the eighth game of the set.
Â
Adamovic would go on to take the next two games to take the set, 6-4, in front of a large group of Cowgirl supporters.
Â
"I can't believe that this many people came to watch me," Adamovic said. "I'm so proud of that, I'm proud to be part of this community and these people, I love them."
The loss brought to an end a run for Adamovic that saw her win six consecutive matches over opponents ranked in the top 25, including a pair over No. 5, as well as victories over Nos. 7, 11, 18 and 25.
"I heard people calling it a Cinderella story, but I wouldn't call it that. I think everyone knew coming in how great she was and she proved that this tournament. All credit goes to her for an unbelievable tournament," Carter said. "She really pushed me today and she forced me to step up. I was fortunate to be able to do it."
