Underwood Signs DFW's Leading Scorer, PG Averette

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State basketball coach Brad Underwood signed his first Cowboy in Richardson High School standout Brandon Averette.
The 5-11 point guard led all DFW area 6A players in scoring with an average of 22.6 points per game. He was the two-time District 10-6A Most Valuable Player and a two-time All-Region selection by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.
MaxPreps ranked Averette as the No. 17 player in the state of Texas, while 247Sports tabbed him as the No. 20 recruit in the Lone Star state.
"I'm elated that Brandon is going to be a Cowboy," Underwood said. "He's one of the hardest working young men I've ever been around, which has really helped him burst onto the scene, not just in Texas, but across the country. Brandon is a natural scorer who knows how to also get his teammates involved, but more importantly he's a winner. He's an explosive athlete, and personality-wise he's a perfect fit for Oklahoma State. We couldn't be more excited to have Brandon in the Cowboy family."
Not just a scorer, Averette also averaged 6.0 assists and 4.6 rebounds per game in 2015-16, which helped Richardson post a 27-7 record last season. In one of his best games, Averette posted a triple-double against Highland Park with 17 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds. Those numbers helped him earn All-Area second team honors from the Dallas Morning News.
He originally signed with Underwood at Stephen F. Austin last November following a junior season in which he averaged 18 points, 4.5 rebounds, seven assists and 2.5 steals per game for the Eagles.
Averette joins a trio of Cowboy signees already committed to OSU for the upcoming season. Cameron McGriff (6-7, SF, Grand Prairie, Texas), Thomas Dziagwa (6-4, SG, Tampa, Fla.) and Lindy Waters III (6-5, SG, Norman, Okla.) signed with the Cowboys in November of 2015.
