Iowa State Postgame Quotes
February 29, 2016 | Cowboy Basketball
Coach Travis Ford
Opening statement:
"I'm so proud of our team's effort. We've got an exhausted team in our locker room. We didn't play great, but I told them that we did every single thing wanted to do but the one thing that we can't necessarily control is making shots. Our defense was really good. We came back in the second half rebounding the basketball. We just weren't rewarded with shots going down. To hold Iowa State to 58 points, I'm so proud of them."On late run to close the game:
"Tyree Griffin with one minute and 40 seconds to go hits a three goes in and comes out that would cut it to four. If that goes in, anything can happen. I'm proud of our team's effort despite being so shorthanded tonight. For the guys that laced up, I'm proud of them. I'm disappointed in the loss, but the one thing you can't control is making shots sometimes, that's the only thing we didn't do well."
On adjusting offensively:
"We are who we are offensively. They went to that zone because of what we had planned to do against their man-to-man defense was working good, getting the ball inside, creating shots, skipping the ball for open 3's. We were locked in against the man, then when they switched to the zone it made us stand a little bit. You have to make shots against a zone. They didn't o in for us tonight."
On battling injuries:
"He didn't have a choice at this point. It's amazing, the foul trouble you face with all of these injuries. We didn't stay out of foul trouble and it became a major factor. Then, Tavarius (Shine) goes down and we don't really have another wing. The next guys would've been Joe Burton, but he's in foul trouble. We talked a lot in the locker room before the game that you play the game to compete. It doesn't matter what's happened before. If we're going against the odds, we're going against the odds."

On the team's effort till the end:
"What really kept our team going is we're playing for each other right now. You have to keep going for your bothers, never stop for your brothers. I was hurt, but I didn't want to give up on my brothers. That's what keeps us going and motivated."
Â
On the injury:
"It's my shoulder. When I for the steal off the (Jeff) Newberry deflection I ran into (Joe) Burton and that kind of jarred it. I really don't know what's wrong with it right now but it's probably just a stringer so I should be all right for the next game."
Â
On the Texas game:
"We're going to come out and give it our best. I love my team and my brothers. I'm going to come out and give my best. It's senior night so I'm going to do it for all my seniors. It's been a tough stretch for us but we've just got to keep pushing."

Â
On the early success:
"First half we were able to throw it inside. We spaced the floor and I was able to go to work."
Â
On the success Iowa State had when it switched to a zone defense:
"They just played down and sank in so it was hard to get it in the post."
Â
On what not giving up says about the team:
"We just fight. Coach is always saying we don't have any excuses. It's been an up and down year. We're just doing it for each other and coach (Travis) Ford. It's been a bad stretch but (Ford) has stayed with us 100 percent, never gave up. He's giving us everything he has so we're just returning the favor and giving him all we have."Â
