West Virginia Postgame Notes
February 27, 2016 | Cowboy Basketball
- The Cowboys held the Mountaineers under 40 percent shooting, which is the 12th time this year OSU kept an opponent at 40 percent or less.
- Joe Burton scored a career-high 16 points, which topped his previous high of 15 against George Mason earlier this season.
- Tavarius Shine posted 12 first-half points for his fifth double-digit scoring performance of the season. Shine has now scored at least nine points in each of OSU's last five games.
- Shine also posted a pair of blocks and a pair of steals - both tied for his career high.
- Tonight marked the second career start for sophomore guard Tavarius Shine (54th career appearance).
- OSU shot 55 percent (11-of-20) from the floor in the first half, which is the team's best shooting first half in Big 12 play this year. Only OSU's 64.3 percent (18-of-28) shooting first half against Long Beach State at the Charleston Classic was better this season.
- The Cowboys have now lost four straight games overall, and four of their last five at Gallagher-Iba Arena. OSU is now 8-7 at home this year.
- West Virginia has now won the last four meetings in the series, and lead the overall series 5-4.
- OSU is now 1-7 this season against teams ranked in the AP top 25.
- With its three conference wins, Oklahoma State can mathematically climb no higher than the No. 8 seed for the Big 12 Tournament, which begins March 9 in Kansas City. If the tournament started today, OSU would be the No. 9 seed and would face No. 8 Kansas State on Wednesday, March 9 at 6 p.m. on ESPNU.
- Jeff Newberry is the only player to start every game for OSU this season.
- OSU has made at least one three-pointer in 512 consecutive games dating back to Jan. 13, 2001.
