Oklahoma Postgame Notes
February 24, 2016 | Cowboy Basketball
- Jeff Newberry led the Cowboys with 19 points on a career-high five 3-pointers.
- Tavarius Shine hit a 3-pointer with 17 minutes remaining to put OSU on top, 31-30. The Sooners responded with an 33-8 run over the next 12 minutes that put the game out of reach for the Cowboys.
- The Cowboys jumped out to a 10-1 lead thanks to 3-pointers from Tavarius Shine and Jeff Newberry. OSU hit four of its first seven shots.
- Mitchell Solomon blocked his first shot of the night on OU's first possession of the game. The sophomore has blocked eight shots in his last six games. Prior to that stretch, Solomon had seven blocks in his first 22 games this year.
- The 22 point margin of victory for the Sooners is the largest by either team since the Cowboys beat OU 72-44 in Stillwater on Feb. 14, 2001
- OSU has now dropped seven consecutive games to Oklahoma overall, and 12 straight at the Lloyd Noble Center. OSU's last win in Norman was on Feb. 16, 2004.
- The Cowboys are now 0-12 when coming into Norman as an unranked squad and facing a ranked Oklahoma team.
- The Sooners lead the overall series, 136-95, including an 83-26 edge in Norman. OSU is 6-13 against the Sooners in the Travis Ford era.
- The Cowboys have now lost 11 straight Big 12 road games dating back to last season. OSU's last conference road win was a 74-56 win over no. 16 Baylor in Waco, Texas on Feb. 9, 2015.
- Tonight marked the first career start for sophomore guard Tavarius Shine (53rd career appearance).
- Jeffrey Carroll missed the game with a stomach illness. The sophomore had played in all 27 games this season, and had started 20.
- With its three conference wins, Oklahoma State can mathematically climb no higher than the No. 8 seed for the Big 12 Tournament, which begins March 9 in Kansas City. If the tournament started today, OSU would be the No. 9 seed and would face No. 8 Kansas State on Wednesday, March 9 at 6 p.m. on ESPNU.
- Tyree Griffin entered tonight's contest with 20 assists and just three turnovers in his last two games, and all this despite playing on a rolled ankle. Tonight against the Sooners, Griffin tallied four dimes.
- Jeff Newberry is the only player to start every game for OSU this season.
- OSU has made at least one three-pointer in 511 consecutive games dating back to Jan. 13, 2001.
