Cowboy Wrestling to Face Penn State in Dual Championship
February 15, 2016 | Cowboy Wrestling
STILLWATER – After rising to No. 3 in the USA Today/NWCA Division I Coaches Poll, Oklahoma State's wrestling team was selected by the NWCA to compete against No. 1 Penn State in the championship match of the NWCA Bowl Dual Series, which will take place on Sunday at 4 p.m. CT. It was announced Monday.
The Bowl Dual Series features the top-eight Big Ten programs each hosting a non-Big Ten school in a weekend of dual competition.
"I want to see this materialize into something in the future and not just be a one-year thing," Smith said. "It's a good idea, having big dual meets at the end of the year. It gets athletes ready for the conference and the national tournaments. It's good for the fans, too, because they can watch it on TV and get excited about it. Penn State has a strong lineup. We're favored at only maybe two or three weights. For us to win, we're going to have to have some upsets and that's what some of our guys are looking for."
Since a loss to North Carolina State in early-December, the Cowboys have been on a 10-match win streak and hold a 12-2 record.
The Nittany Lions finished their regular season unbeaten with a 15-0 record and a 9-0 mark in Big Ten competition.
The Cowboys will host the 14th-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels on Friday at 7 p.m. to close out the regular season before traveling to State College, Pa.
