Wichita State Postgame Notes
December 17, 2016 | Cowboy Basketball
- The Cowboys are just the second non-conference team to beat Wichita State at home since 2008. VCU in 2011 is the only other non-Missouri Valley squad to win in Wichita since 2008. WSU was 60-1 at home in regular season, non-conference games since November of 2008.
- Including postseason NIT games, the Shockers had won 42 non-conference home games in a row (the nation's second-longest streak behind Duke).
- Wichita State had held 116 straight home opponents under 80 points in regulation.
- The Cowboys led by as many as 25 points with 4:47 remaining in the game.
- The Cowboys hit 14 3-point shots, which is just one off the school record and tied for the fourth-most ever by a Cowboy team. This gives them double-digit makes for the fifth time this season and for the second straight game.
- OSU is the first team to beat Wichita State in INTRUST Bank Arena, which is the downtown home of the Shockers. WSU was 6-0 in the venue heading into tonight's game.
- OSU is now 15-5 all-time against the Shockers in Wichita, which is the best win percentage by any team that has played at least 10 games in Wichita.
- Jeffrey Carroll and Jawun Evans led the Cowboys offensive efforts with 22 points each. This marks the third time this season in which the Cowboys had at least two 20-point scorers.
- Phil Forte entered the game with the national lead in free throw percentage with a clip of 97.3 percent. The senior hit all four of his attempts tonight and is 42-of-43 from the line this year, and has made his last 20 attempts.
- The Cowboys have forced every opponent to commit at least 15 turnovers, and have racked up at least seven steals in every game.
- Brad Underwood scored his 97th career victory in just his 113th game. That .858 win percentage is tops among all active Division I coaches. With just 16 career losses, Underwood has a chance to reach his 100th victory faster than any coaches since Missouri's Doc Meanwell in 1918 (100-9) and Buck Freeman of St. John's in 1932 (100-10).
- The Cowboys are now 30-8 all-time against the Shockers, and 94-36 against the current members of the Missouri Valley Conference.
- The Cowboys will return home to face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in Gallagher-Iba Arena on Dec. 22. Please note the special noon tipoff time. The game will air on Fox Sports Oklahoma and the Cowboy Radio Network.
