Georgetown Postgame Notes
November 23, 2016 | Cowboy Basketball
- Brad Underwood and the Cowboys (5-1) got back into the win column against the Hoyas to claim third place in the Maui Invitational. Underwood improved his career record to 94-15 (.862), which is the best win percentage by any active Division I head coach.
- The Cowboys tied the school record for steals in a game with 19 against the Hoyas. OSU had 18 in the win over UConn on Monday.
- The 97-70 victory marked the first time since Feb. 16, 2014 (St. John's) in which Georgetown lost by more than 20 points.
- Jeffrey Carroll led the way for the Cowboys with 20 points and seven rebounds against the Hoyas. It is his third 20-point outing in six games this season.
- For the second time in three games in Maui, the Cowboys had double-digit steals by halftime. OSU's 11 first-half steals against Georgetown is tied for the third-best performance in OSU history. The Cowboys broke the school record for steals in a half with 14 against UConn in the Maui Invite opener.
- Thomas Dziagwa was a force in the first half for the Cowboys. The freshman forced a pair of steals and went 2-of-2 from 3-point and 2-of-2 from the line for eight points.
- The Hoyas put the Cowboys in an 8-0 hole to open the game, but a ferocious Cameron McGriff dunk changed everything for OSU. For the rest of the half, the Cowboys out-scored the Hoyas 50- 27.
- Lucas N'Guessan earned his first career start for the Cowboys. Brad Underwood had gone with the same starting lineup in each of the last four games, which featured Mitchell Solomon in the paint for OSU.
- Tonight's game was the first ever meeting between these two programs. The Cowboys are now 41-36 against current members of the Big East Conference.
- OSU has made at least one three-pointer in 521 consecutive games dating back to Jan. 13, 2001.
- The Cowboys will return home to face Rogers State in Gallagher-Iba Arena on Nov. 30. The Cowboys will celebrate Oklahoma's Native American heritage with their special N7 jersey night.
