Cowboys Finish Second At Olympia Fields

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. — Oklahoma State's men's golf team claimed a runner-up finish on Sunday at the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational after posting a 282 during its third round at Olympia Fields Country Club.
The Cowboys finished with a 54-hole total of 849, 9-over, and three shots behind tournament champion Florida State at the par-70, 7,353-yard layout. Arizona State finished third with a 15-over tally of 855.
Stanford's Maverick McNealy closed with a 71 to maintain his spot atop the individual standings, finishing at 7-under 203 to claim medalist honors.
OSU was led by junior Wyndham Clark, who climbed 17 spots into a tie for sixth place after firing a 65 during his third round. Clark, who posted a 1-under total of 209, went out in 6-under 30 after putting together a front nine that featured birdies at Nos. 1, 2, 4, 6, 7 and 8. Clark's inward nine began with a par before his first bogey of the day came at the 11th. After posting four consecutive pars, he added his final birdie of the day at the 16th before moving back to 5-under on the round with a bogey at the 17th.
Senior Jordan Niebrugge carded his third 71 in a row to finish at 3-over 213 and tied for 13th place.
Sophomore Sam Stevens posted a top-20 showing as well, signing for a 72 during his final round to come in tied for 16th place at 214.
Redshirt freshman Nick Heinen closed with a 74 to get in with a 219 total and tied for 31st place.
Sophomore Kristoffer Ventura's 76 also put him among the group at 219.
The Cowboys will resume their fall slate on Oct. 4 at the Erin Hills Invitational in Milwaukee.
