Bedlam Soccer: Championship Style
August 27, 2015 | Cowgirl Soccer
Bedlam has produced a number of milestones for the Oklahoma State soccer program over its first two decades.
Â
In 2002, the Cowgirls clinched the first postseason berth in program history with a win over OU in Stillwater. Six years later, OSU claimed its first-ever Big 12 Conference regular season championship when they brought home the 2008 trophy with a victory in Norman.
Â
Another epic triumph came in 2010. This time, the stakes were high for both teams as a conference title was on the line in the finals of the Big 12 Soccer Championship in San Antonio.
Â
OU, the tourney's No. 4 seed, entered the match as the underdog against the 10th-ranked and second-seeded Cowgirls, but the Sooners took an early lead on a goal by Annalisa Hall just 98 seconds in.
Â
That lead held until the 70th minute when Kyndall Treadwell recorded the equalizer for OSU on an open-net score after the OU goalie and a defender collided just outside the 18-yard box.
Â
OSU's All-American keeper, AD Franch, helped keep the Cowgirls' title hopes alive as she recorded eight saves on the day, several of those of the highlight-reel variety.
Â
After 110 minutes of regulation and two overtime periods, the game remained tied 1-1, setting up a penalty kick shootout to decide a champion.
Â
Once again, Franch came up big, diving to her right and saving the attempt of Jordan White, and OSU converted all five of its PKs, clinching the title when Krista Lopez buried her attempt.
Â
The Big 12 championship was the third in a row for OSU, which would record its fourth league title in a row the following season.
The next chapter in The Bedlam Series takes place Friday night at 7:05 at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex.
