Glenn Spencer on the OSU Defense
August 24, 2015 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER, Okla. – The Oklahoma State football team practiced for approximately two hours Monday afternoon at the Sherman E. Smith Training Facility. Defensive coordinator Glenn Spencer shared his thoughts on the defense after the session:
Defensive Coordinator Glenn Spencer
On how today's practice went:
"Good. We bounced back. I thought we gave up a few too many big plays. Last time we practiced, they bounced back and competed and had some good stops. We were better on turnovers."
On putting in the game plan for the first game:
"We're just chipping away at it. We've done some during camp and a bit more this week. It's a little bit better than a game week, because basically you have to get it all in in two days and now we can get it basically in in a week and a half's time, so we're taking advantage of that."
On facing Central Michigan:
"You study tape from last year and see how they're an explosive team. They can put up a lot of points on you. They've got a tremendous quarterback that's a playmaker. He's going to create plays. They've got a few experienced linemen back. They've got good running backs back. They know how to compete. We've seen how they've come back in some games. They're going to add a few new wrinkles, so we've got to be ready to adjust during the game as it goes along. It's a very prideful program up there at home in their place. It's a night game up there, so I'm sure it's going to be electric. They'll be ready for us."
On his defense:
"It's a work in progress. You've got to rely on the guys that have played for you; that have been in the battle. We have a lot of guys that are still young. They don't have a ton of snaps. You just hope you build some experience. Going against our offense in camp has been tremendous because they've got a lot of weapons they can throw at you. It's the first game. There's a lot of unknowns. However we play – that's who we are. It's not about what people expect us to do or what somebody thinks our expectations is. That's worthless. What matters is what happens out on the field. That's the only thing that matters. Everything else is garbage."
