22 Cowboys Honored On Academic All-Big 12 Team
November 19, 2015 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER – The Big 12 Conference announced the 2015 Academic All-Big 12 Football Team Thursday with 22 Oklahoma State players included on the list, marking the most players OSU has ever had an academic all-conference team.
That also marks the most first team selections in school history. The previous high for overall Academic All-Big 12 selections was 17 players in 1996.
The Cowboys were one of just four teams that had at least 20 players honored, and rank second only to Kansas State this year in both total honorees and first team selections.
Of OSU's 22 selections, 13 were honored as first team members while nine were on the second team. Center Brad Lundblade was one of just five players in the Big 12 nominated with a 4.0 GPA.
In addition to Lundblade, first team honorees included Cowboy back Jordan Frazier, cornerback Chris Hardeman, safety Dylan Harding, defensive lineman Victor Irokansi, Cowboy back Blake Jarwin, receiver Chris Lacy, receiver Cole Neph, holder Bryant Reber, Cowboy back Jeremy Seaton, linebacker Ryan Simmons, long snapper Kaleb Smith and linebacker Kirk Tucker.
Second team honorees included defensive lineman Trace Clark, receiver Kameron Doolittle, safety Tre Flowers, receiver David Glidden, kicker Ben Grogan, safety Jerel Morrow, quarterback Mason Rudolph, punter Zach Sinor and linebacker Chad Whitener.
It marks the fourth academic all-conference selection for Seaton, the third for Clark and the second for Grogan, Smith, Irokansi and Morrow. It is also the second-straight first team recognition for Seaton and Smith.
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence.
Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
