Ogbah Sets Record In Win Over Jayhawks
October 25, 2015 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State football team was a 58-10 winner over Kansas in Boone Pickens Stadium on Saturday. Some talking points from the game:
The Oklahoma State win…
• Improved the Cowboys to 7-0, marking the third time under Gundy that OSU has had a perfect record after seven games. The previous two occasions were in 2008 and 2011. OSU had only one 7-0 start in 103 seasons before Gundy. It came in 1945.
• Marked the Cowboys' ninth consecutive win, dating back to last season. It's OSU's longest win streak since the Pokes rattled off 11-straight wins from Dec. 29, 2010 to Nov. 18, 2011. Nine-straight wins stands alone as the third-longest winning streak in school history. OSU won 13 straight from 1944-46.
• Was the Cowboys' 11th in their last 12 meetings against Kansas.
• Improved the Cowboys to 44-5 in their last 49 games against unranked opponents, dating back to 2010.
A school record fell in the contest, as defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah became Oklahoma State's career leader in quarterback hurries. With three hurries against the Jayhawks, his updated career total of 19 surpasses the previous mark of 17, which was set by Marque Fountain from 2003-07.
Some of the standouts from yesterday's win over the Jayhawks:
Offense
J.W. Walsh
Quarterback | 6-2 | 215 | Redshirt Senior | Denton, TX/Guyer
Oklahoma State quarterback J.W. Walsh was statistically involved in 11 offensive plays in the Cowboys' win over Kansas, with five of those resulting in touchdowns (three rushing, one passing). He was 5-for-5 passing for 68 yards and two touchdowns, which yielded a passer rating of 346.2. He carried the ball six times and scored three touchdowns. Outrageously efficient performances like that have become the norm for Walsh, who has turned in a passer rating of better than 200 in each of the last five games. On the year, Walsh has completed 14-of-18 passes, with seven of those going for touchdowns against no interceptions. He leads the team with six rushing touchdowns.
Defense
Devante Averette
Linebacker | 6-0 | 230 | Redshirt Junior | Detroit, MI/Ellsworth CC
On a day when no Oklahoma State player spent a lot of time on the field (Kansas ran just 58 offensive plays and OSU had its second and third-team units on the field to defend most of them), linebacker Devante Averette led the way with four tackles and an interception. Averette's interception was his second in as many games.
Special Teams
Miketavius Jones
Cornerback | 5-10 | 175 | Redshirt Senior | Houston, TX/North Shore
Cornerback Miketavius Jones made one of the most significant plays in Oklahoma State's win over Kansas when he blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown early in the second quarter to set the Cowboys up with a comfortable 21-0 advantage. His touchdown on a blocked punt was the first for OSU since 2012. Jones has been perhaps OSU's best special teams weapon this season. He ranks third on the team with five special teams tackles (three on kickoffs, two on punts), and now has a blocked kick to add to his special teams résumé.
