Cowgirl Basketball Set To Open Practice
October 13, 2006 | Cowgirl Basketball
Second-year Cowgirl head coach Kurt Budke and his staff return five players from a year ago and welcome 10 newcomers to the squad.
A quartet of seniors, Christian Hood, Rashidat Sadiq, Brisa Silva and Destanie Sykes, highlight the revamped roster.
Entering their fourth year with the program, Hood is already the Cowgirls' all-time blocked shots leader with 124 rejections, while Sykes has played in 83 games and has made a team-high 64 starts during her career.
Silva arrived last season and has made her mark as well with 49 3-pointers, giving her the fourth-best single-season total in school history. A transfer from Connecticut, Sadiq enters the mix with a year of experience in Budke's system under her belt after sitting out last season.
The new-look Cowgirl roster features the 27th-best recruiting class in the nation according to the All-Star Girls Report. OSU will use a blend of junior college and prep standouts as well as a pair of transfers that sat out last season.
The quartet of junior college players were all ranked among the top 35 prospects overall and the top 10 at their respective positions, while the trio of prep standouts have all competed at a championship-caliber level as well.
